We left the
The Gate Inn around 9:50am and had a very short uphill walk to the canal. It was a warm sunny morning and stayed warm all day. The first two photographs are taken looking north and south from lock 29W to give you an idea of our surroundings.
The photograph below gives you the view looking West.
Initially we walked down a towpath on the west side of the canal, but it was a bit too sunny, so we moved to the eastern towpath where there was shade from trees. Shortly afterwards there were trees on both sides of the canal and it was much cooler.
Twenty minutes later we passed under the Uppermill train viaduct. At the same time the canal was in an aquaduct crossing the Tame river. Volunteers from the
Canal and River Trust were busy clearing weeds from the area.
